Welcome to AlmostVPN 1.0
AlmostVPN is an ssh tunnel manager for Mac OS X with a twist. This is what makes AlmostVPN different:
- it packaged as Preference Panel, so you do not have to use yet another application to configure your tunnels
- it uses creative network configuration techniques to provide almost VPN like access to remote services, so you can keep using real IP addresses and port numbers while accessing service on the other side of your tunnels.
- it provides simple way to
- ... mount remote volumes
- ... use your remote printers and faxes
- ... access you iTunes, iPhoto and almost any other Bonjour based application
- ... upload/download/execute files (with support for console and X11 based applications)
- ... use your favorite remote access application (VNC, ARD, RDC or just good old shell )
- it is scriptable, so you can start/stop your profiles exactly when you need it
- it can import tunnel definitions from SSH Tunnel Manager, SSHKeychain, SSH Agent and JellyfiSSH

Did you know that AlmostVPN works great with service provided by your-freedom.net? It is very easy to setup and basic service is free (your-freedom packages)!

Effective today, Leaping Bytes introduced volume discounts for AlmostVPN v1.x (YES, one of our customers actually wants to by enough copies of AlmostVPN to justify volume discounts -- Hurray!!!).

You have to use Kagi (link on the left: Buy via/Kagi ) to get these discounts, but Kagi now accepts payments from PayPal accounts, so it should not be too much of a problem.
NOTE: Due to the way Kagi store works, you will not see discount applied to the Total, until you hit "Checkout" button.

AlmostVPN v1.0 is GA!!! Leaping Bytes wants to say "Thank you", for all people who found the time to communicate they problems back to Leaping Bytes. As a result huge number of bugs/problems/inconviniences were fixed since RC3. But please do not stop now. Use AlmostVPN every day, and if it does not do what you want it to do, drop us a line. The only problem which Leaping Bytes can not fix, is the one we never heard about!!!

AlmostVPN v1.0 reached Beta 5. I think it it stable and functional enough to be recommended for public consumption. You can find it here.

WOW. Leaping Bytes are getting well-known around the world (maybe even too well-known). This message was posted today on MacUpdate:
The People's Republic of China has chosen to block all and any access to leapingbytes.com. I would regard that being a medal of honour, if the worlds no.1 paraniod censors are that much scared of leapingbytes.com.

P.S. If anyone wants to "mirror" AlmostVPN on server not yet blocked by China feel free to do it.
