I am using RC3 1. I bought a license, when I try to activate it asks for my sudo password, the activation button depresses, then pops back up and nothing happens, the activation field is blank again. 2. when configuring, it hangs all the time. The platform is Mac OSX 10.4.7, PowerPC, Powerbook 12", 1.25Gb Ram. I am attempting to VPN back to my home machine via two ADSL links (one at each end), the target system is also Mac OSX 10.4.7, Intel. |

When i installed the new Pro version, it found my existing AlmostVPN profile and imported it. It worked fine. But then I uninstalled the AlmostVPN, thinking I didnt need it anymore, since I had the pro version. Well that was a mistake. the pro version is looking for some AlmostVPN file and it doesnt work. I uninstalled pro, and reinstalled it, manually placed the values into it, but it still looks for a file it cant find. I'm using secure-tunnel.com service. Will the Pro version work with it? The reason I had tried the pro version is the older AlmostVPN wasnt working anymore. Thanks |

Seems that if I put in an address as the host address, it won;t connect, whereas I put in the IP and it does connect.... |

After establishing two tunnels last night (POP3 and SMTP) to the same host, when I got up this morning neither tunnel worked (Telneting to localhost port 8025 and 8110 produced: telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused telnet: Unable to connect to remote host looking at the pref pane, AlmostVPN was reporting that both were active. I Stopped and restarted the profile, and both are working normally. The laptop did not go to sleep overnight. |

Hi, I've been trying to use almostVPN for around a week. It has sometimes worked, but I often get a "stale PIDs" error, in which case nothing works. I have the latest version of almostVPN (0.9.11) and the latest update of OSX 10.4. I was previously using SSH Tunnel Manager to gain access to webtunnel.securenntp.com. I imported the info from it using your Inport button. I have never been able to get a green reading on the Test Account, even when almostVPN has been working properly. SSH Tunnel Manager continues to work properly, but, now, almostVPN doesn't work at all, failing repeatedly with the stale PIDs message. (Of course, I Quit SSHTunnel before opening almostVPN.) Clearing and reimporting all the data has no effect. How do I rid myself of the stale PIDs file? I have searched for the log file using Find from the Finder and it is unable to find anything. Where is it stored? |

I need to press the start button several times after AlmostVPN breaks down after closing PowerBook? cover. It is unable to do that recovering automatically and make me to go Preference Panel and try it several times. ¿Could it be possible to have a more robust and with (n) retry actions after fails? |

I'm setting up a simple IMAP connection to a machine that is resolvable in DNS (but not reachable due to a firewall) through an intermediary SSH server:
(sshhost and imaphost both have "public" IP addresses in global DNS). remotehost does make the connection according to lsof, and I can "telnet localhost imap" to connect to imaphost. But remotehost does not believe it is imaphost, so "telnet imaphost imap" goes to the real IP address and so times out. I don't know whether the public DNS issue matters here or not; I only point it out because it's a somewhat unusual situation since most people would NAT imaphost. How does the split personality of AlmostVPN work? I can't find anything to help me troubleshoot this. |

I'm new to this, so forgive me if this is not a bug. I have tried to get an afp share working through AlmostVPN (Version 1, beta 6). When I mount it with Cmd-K from the finder, the finder quits, and there's lots of beeping. I am unable to install AlmostVPN. When I try to install it, I get the global/user selection box and, after choosing "install for user only" there is a short pause, and then I get a message that says "the pane you are installing is already installed: replace?" Clicking "yes" appears to install the app, but then clicking on the pref icon gets the message "Could not load AlmostVPN". An attempt to ctl-click and remove the pane gets the message "The "%@" preference pane could not be removed because an error occurred". I did try using the uninstall procedure to remove all traces of the pane, but the re-install message still appears |

I am trying to set up a connection to our company server. No matter if I try smb or imap, it won't work. When I press "start" the login ends with "unknown fingerprint". As I read on your page I have tried the buttom "Test Account", but this will result in "Fail to connect to account 6a". I have no idea what to do. Maybe this information is important: I am using dyndns to get the IP-adress of the server. Can anybody help. |

Love your software. But I use localhost to connect to a number of boxes using different ports. Evry time I switch boxes it gets different key and stalls, and I have to edit or delete my known hosts file. Yours is not the only software that has this problem. Fugu comes to mind. Any way around it? Thanks. |

AlmostVPN version 0.9.14 Mac OS X version 10.4.6 AlmostVPN doesn't retry to connect when a connection fails. Steps to reproduce: 1. Activate AlmostVPN. Status should be "Running" afterwards 2. Break current network connection (e.g. pull ethernet cable or disable AirPort?) 3a. Do not reconnect for some time, e.g. an hour (work offline, commute, whatever) OR 3b. I had 0.9.14 working mostly, with the ocasional odd error, but I wanted to check out the beta. After uninstalling 0.9.14, I installed the preference pane and set up the same SSH server in the new version. I followed the tutorials to setup an SSH server, a remote host, and services on that host. I created a profile and dragged those services to it. Then I went into the control tab and clicked start. I waited for my green light, and it never came. I looked at the monitor tab and it was as if it was not even trying to do anything. I looked at the preferences tab and noticed that under the Backend section it says "stopped". I click on the 'start' button and it depresses for about 10 seconds and then returns to normal, still saying 'stopped'. I looked at the uninstall instructions and everything seems to be present except the "AVPN.Agent" from my Login Items. In fact, spotlighting for AVPN gives me no results at all. Did some piece of the software not get installed correctly? |

Hi. I love AlmostVPN but, I have not been able to get the last two releases to work. Whenever I try to connect I get this failure message 'password expected.' Reinstalling the old version (March 2006 - 0.9.14) makes everything work properly again. Can you offer me any non-technical solutions please? I use Mac OSX 10.4.7. |

I'm a little mixed on the new interface. It has a number of enhancements, but it's also a bit more confusing. There are a lot of changes in the interface, and I'm sure it's all moving in a great direction. You might want to consider some quick words on your site about the diff in config settings For example, I have an SSH Server, that has an email account with imap (that was added via quick config) and yet I can still add services outside of that: SSH Server + mail.lightbulb.net ++ ncianca@lightbulb.com +++ imap ++ smtp ++ imaps ++ pop3s ++ imap ++ pop3 I assume that an SSH Server can support the service directly, i.e. it doesn't need to be bound to a specific email account, so what is the purpose of the email account? The email account that appears was entered via QuickConfig and looking at the panel for the email account, I see that it's the hostname, with an address of 127.13.0.2, which is indeed an address added the ethernet interface. It just seems a little more confusing then the way it used to be configured. 2) How does one override the DNS portion? I have some local virtual domains running on my machine which are defined by /etc/hosts (e.g. I use a .dev domain for development) and with prior versions of AlmostVPN I had to define these hosts along with the loopback address in the panel to override the AlmostVPN DNS routing. Do I just add these under the .local machine name? 3) Is it still possible to create a tunnel that uses a port range? It was possible in earlier versions to create a tunnel that would have a start / end range of ports. I'm not sure this can still be done. |

If the "discovery" button is supposed to find services on the host (e.g. imap, httpd, etc) then it's not working. |

I entered the activation key last evening. This morning, while looking at the pref panes, the activation screen shows no information about the key: Both the Key field is blank (It said something like "Activated at 1.0 level" last night). Also the Activate button is not greyed out. As an experiment, I re-entered the activation key, and it took it... it now shows Activated again, although the Activation Date is still blank. |

Most tasks that i perform bring up the spinning beach ball and are reported by the "Force Quit Applications" as a non responding application. I'm running a a 17" Macbook Pro with 2Gig ram. When i right click SSH servers so as to add a new one the application takes over 40 seconds to respond. I'd love to have smart connection rules. The idea is pretty simple, but would be a great one that solves a couple of suggestions I have previously made. Allows rules to activate and deactivate AlmostVPN Pro based on IP. For example, I work on different networks, and these require different profiles. However, one thing that is unique is the ip address (or net) that the laptop has at the time. For example, I might be assigned an ip of 172.166.1.221 at one client so a rule like # turn all off and then turn on Profile_1 If IP_ADDR = 172.166.1.* then turn off other profiles and turn on Profile_1 # stopping AlmostVPN completely if IP_ADDR = 192.168.2.* then turn off all profiles # turn on profile_2 leaving other profiles that are on if IP_ADDR = 205.23.55.12 then turn on Profile_2 |

In one of the corporate environments that I am in, each ethernet jack as an IP address assigned to it. When I put my laptop to sleep, go to another room, plug it back in, and wake up the powerbook, AlmostVPN doesn't release the old IP Address binding and needs to be completely stopped and started again. |

I can still connect to the machine at external.ip.address via SSH, but for some reason, AlmostVPN has failed to connect again and again. I had to force a reboot due to an unrelated issue. Now when I attempt to start AlmostVPN, I get the following error: "Almost VPN is not running - Stale PID's file" Where is this file and how can I remove it? Is it possible for AlmostVPN to automatically remove this file when this condition is detected? Thanks in advance, very impressive improvements so far. |

In AlmostVPN, please implement and integrate a GUI for port knocking. PK adds a simple but effective layer of security. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_knocking I imagine the PK GUI to be able to use/add/edit/delete a list of port knocking "sequences." Each sequence has one title, one host name, and then an arbitrarily-long, ordered list of port numbers and protocols (TCP or UDP).
