I didn't want to start a ticket for this simple question but I did not see any easy way to contact you guys.

Can AlmostVPN automatically reconnect you when it senses the VPN connection broken? If it can't might you add this feature in the future?

Efren, no problem. you could e-mail to support@leapingbytes.com or join News Group, but opening new ticket will work as well.

Functionality you are asking about already implemented in AlmostVPN. AlmostVPN will try to reconnect when one of two things happen:

  • "Connection closed by remote host"
  • "Connection reset by peer"

AlmostVPN will try to reconnect until it fails to do so more then 5 time in 10 seconds.

I am having a problem getting this to actually work...

I am on a university campus and use the university network (in the dorm).

In any case, students cannot have static *external* ip addresses ... which means that, from connection-to-connection, I'll probably have a new ip address. ugh. More accurately, I have an ip tunnel for only a couple of minutes and then my ip shifts to a new one. This is to protect students, yada, yada, yada.

In any case, AlmostVPN is not sensing the switch that's making my tunnels drop. So, anytime I want to do something with the tunnels (every 10 mins or so), I have to re-connect manually using the widget. I cannot tell you how much this sucks. =)

I love the program, I just wish that it could test whether the current connection is still available. Scutil polls for network availability, but I always have a network connection ... just not the same externally-available IP. Weird, I know.

So, it would be great if there were an option to have AlmostVPN re-establish ssh tunnels when it senses the external ip (world-viewable) has changed.

Could you please provide me with log files from AlmostVPN ( you can either attach them to this ticket or e-mail it to support@leapingbytes.com. NOTE: Make sure that "extra logging" is enabled FAQ How can I see AlmostVPN Logs). I want to see what goes into the log when you are loosing connection.
