Secure Tunnel for newsgroups causes AlmostVPN error.

Reported by: randy@lexicons.net Assigned to: andrei
Priority: normal Milestone: AlmostVPN 0.9.15
Component: PreferencePanel Version: 0.9
Severity: major Keywords: command line

Description

I followed the instructions for installing your software for use with Usenet newserver through Secure-tunnel.com. They instructed me to put the command line: ssh -l username -L 119:st-news-east.usenet.com:119 tunnel-east.secure-tunnel.com

I entered my username and password and when I try to test the account I get no response. Then when i try to run the tunnel, I get an error about not being able to resolve the name tunnel-east.secure-tunnel.com. But of course, I can ping it fine. Then trying to close the preference window, I get constant errors which will not go away, I have to force quite System Preferences. But to fix the problem, I found that by simply manually adding another tunnel to the above one, and then immediately deleting it, would make this problem disappear.

  • keywords set to command line.
  • status changed from new to assigned.

True.

It looks like when configuration done only via "Quick Config/Command Line", ssh server name is not get stored properly.

Situation could be remedied just by restarting AlmostVPN right after closing "Quick Config" dialog.

Proper fix will be part of the next release.

Thank you for reporting this bug.
