Beta 6 crashes Sys Pref on Intel Mac

Downloaded Beta 6. Expanded it. Double-clicked and let it install for current use. Brought up System Preferences. Clicked on icon, System Preferences quits immediately.

No work around. Simply will not work.

Macbook Pro, 10.4.7 (current updates as of 8/2/06). 1 G RAM.

Does it offer "report problem to Apple"? If it does, could you please cut/paste content of this window (better yet, e-mail it to support@leapingbytes.com).

Also, could you please check if

~/Library/Application Support/AlmostVPNPro/almostvpn.log

was created. If it was, could you please e-mail it too.

Last thing, usually when such crashes happen, some messages end-up on "console". Could you please check if there are any messages which look relevant to this problem in system log and console log?

I think I fixed it (or at least I have fixed one problem which manifested itself on Intel).

Try Beta 7 and let me know if it works for you.

Will keep this ticket open, until got confirmation that it does work.

Issue still present with Beta 7 using a MacBook? with 10.4.7.

The file you specified to email does not exist. To walk you through my install process; I double clicked "AlmostVPNPRO_prefPane.prefPane". I then selected "Install for this user only." After it installed the prefPane, System Preferences says "Loading AlmostVPN..." and then imediately closes. No error message of any kind, it just quits. If there is any more questions I can answer or any further testing I can do, please let me know.

Very strange. Every time application crashed on Mac OS X, it should produce CrashReport?. As of now, there are only two steps I can think of

  1. Try to see if any "suspicious" messages appear in console and/or system log at the same time as System Preferences crash,
  2. Try to run "debug" version of AlmostVPN and see if it will crash too (you can download it from here

I am using Mac Book Pro as my test box and AlmostVPN does work fine (as of Beta 7, Beta 6 did behave the way you described)

It looks like this particular problem related to none-standard placement of user home folder. I was not able to reproduce it neither on my Mac Book Pro with standard user home no on my PPC box with none-standard home.

Still investigating.
