Using alternative SSH ports does not work

Reported by: anonymous Assigned to: andrei
Priority: normal Milestone: AlmostVPN 0.9.7
Component: PreferencePanel Version: 0.9
Severity: normal Keywords:
Cc: bart@vrotvrot.com

Description

Under 'options' I filled in port number 3389.

AVPN tries to connect in the following way:

AlmostVPN [15202]: testSSH "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" "-o" "ConnectTimeout?=10" "-o" "TCPKeepAlive=yes" "-p" "3389" "bart@nuw01700:3389" "exit"

The hostname nuw01700:3389 is invalid and causes a 'failed to connect' message; the ':3389' addition is not needed because you use the -p parameter.

  • status changed from new to assigned.
  • milestone set to AlmostVPN 0.9.7.

My bad. Though you should try to actually start profile. It does work properly there.

NOTE: If you never SSHed to this host before, you will need to do so from command line first (and accept "unknown fingerprint" message)

This seems to go slightly better. However, after starting I see 'Exit with problems. Old status 'Starting. The logfile does not give any information; the last line is:

AlmostVPN [13319]: Status : default|Starting|Starting profile

I doublechecked to see if my machine could indeed make a connection and accepted the host like you said. I'm not sure if these two issues are related however..

Thanks,

Bart

You need to enable "extra logging" ( via debugging dialog "wrench & can of pesticide" icon ) to see more info. In normal mode only state changes get logged.

Though "Starting" is not "final" state. It should become either "running" or "not running". Does it stays like this forever?

What kind of box are you using? What version of OS?

Oh sorry, I did enable extra logging so I see a lot more output than this. This is the last line however and there is no indication of problems anywhere. It also never changes to 'running' or 'not running'.

I'm using a 12" Powerbook with OS X 10.4.3.

Cheers,

Bart

Try to "Kill launchd" from debugging dialog and then try to start again, if it does not help, could you please e-mail your "Log" file and "plist" to support@leapingbytes.com ( you can click on "Open Log"/"Open plist" and then drag file icon from the title bar into e-mail ).

Neither of these two files contain any passwords, but they do contain host names/addresses and user names. If you want, you can "XXX" user names.
