Goal: Define host alias for e-mail server mail.faraway.com via ssh server leapingrodent..
Step 1: Define SSH server, e-mail server, POP3 and SMTP services and empty profile (see How-To: Define Simple Tunnel ).
This is what you should have.

Step 2: Add email server to profile
Drag mail.faraway.com to profile email@faraway.com

After
you have dropped it, select newly added host alias object.

Step 3: Correct alias name
As you can see, AlmostVPN created alias name by replacing “.” with “-” and adding “-avpn” at the end.

I
am not going to discuss reasons for this right now in great details.
Basically, most of the time you will wont to use Alias Host in
conjunction with Bonjour and Bonjour host name can not have “.”.
In our case we do not care about Bonjour, but we do care about alias name been exactly the same as original host name (to avoid e-mail client reconfiguration). So, just replace Alias Name with original Host Name.

That's
it. You are done. You can start profile now.
FAQ.
Can I define more then
one Alias Host with the same services?
Yes. You can have as
many alias hosts as you wont.
It is clear what is going on
when Alias host has services, what about other resources (Drives,
Printers, ... )
Drives and Printers could be used with Alias
Host. Appropriate tunnels will be created automatically and
resources will be announced using Bonjour and Cups. As of now,
only Hosts and Files could not be used with Alias Host (they will be
ignored). It is possible that this will change in the future.
